Currently, the Public Works Department is working to install a 20” water valve at the intersection of Lafayette Drive and Oak Ridge Turnpike. Due to fitting complications, the department has had to delay the installation and was unable to shut off the water. Residents may notice water spilling onto nearby streets.
Water is coming into the pit where the valve is being installed and crews are continually pumping the water out of the pit until the corrected pipe sleeves return to the installation site which is expected around 4 o’clock this afternoon.
Crews decided not to close another water valve so that the Manhattan Shopping Center could continue to have access to water. The Public Works Department hopes to finish the job later this evening and will have to flush the lines as well as check and fill the reservoirs.
