Cedar Hill Playground to Receive New Rubber Surfacing

City Council recently awarded a contract to First Place Finish of Oak Ridge during the September City Council Meeting to install poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing at the newly rebuilt Cedar Hill Park Playground.

This phase of the Cedar Hill Playground Rebuild Project will allow for greatly enhanced accessibility while still providing the required safety protection against falls.

This surfacing was included in the planning phase of the community playground project, but the technical nature of the installation required the use of a qualified contractor. Initially, engineered wood fiber was installed over the entire surface to allow the playground to be opened to the public following the community build and for the upcoming busy summer season. A portion of the wood fiber surfacing will be removed and used to maintain surfacing levels at other city playgrounds. In its place, a concrete base will be installed, with the poured-in-place rubber installed over the concrete. The strategically placed rubber surfacing will also provide far better access to playground equipment for children.

The project is tentatively scheduled to begin September 26, 2011 with completion anticipated for the middle of October. Adverse weather and other variables may impact the project schedule. For the public’s safety, the playground will be closed during the installation process.

“The Recreation and Parks Department would like to thank the community in advance for their cooperation and patience during this closing of Cedar Hill Park Playground,” remarked Josh Collins, Recreation and Parks Director. “Completion of this phase is exciting as it follows the goals of the community volunteers who assisted during the building blitz which was to have a fantastic playground that could be enjoyed by everyone.”
