The City of Oak Ridge advises the public of the following changes to the Oak Ridge City Council meeting schedule.
On October 8, 2012, City Council approved a resolution to add a regular meeting of City Council, which has been scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2012. This addition is to allow the City Council and City Staff to conduct time-sensitive city business, such as the Kroger Marketplace Shopping Center, the Alexander Inn, new City Codes, and additional items that need to be addressed. This regular meeting will replace the City Council Work Session that was scheduled for the same date.
In addition, the November City Council meeting schedule has been modified. During the September 10, 2012 City Council meeting, Council approved a resolution to reschedule the November 12, 2012 City Council meeting for November 5, 2012. This change was needed due to implementation of the 2012 Charter amendments. City voters elected to change the regular city election to the date of the general state election held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years.
This year, three (3) City Council seats are up for election on November 6, 2012. Since the City Charter states that elected members cannot take office until after the county election commissions have certified election results, the November 12, 2012 meeting was rescheduled in order to allow sufficient time for election results to be certified. Otherwise, the possibility would exist that only four (4) CityCouncilmembers could participate in a regular City Council meeting.
Both the October 22, 2012 and November 5, 2012 meetings will be held in the Municipal BuildingCourtroom beginning at 7:00 p.m. The agendas for the meetings will be available by 5:00 p.m. on theWednesdays prior to the Council meetings on the City’s website at www.oakridgetn.gov or in the CityClerk’s Office.
