The City of Oak Ridge would like to remind citizens that the date to pay taxes without penalty is July 31st.  With this date quickly approaching, we encourage you to stop by the business office to pay your taxes directly or they can be mailed to P.O. Box 1, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.

If someone has not received a tax bill by now, they should contact the City’s Business Office immediately.  Regardless of the ability of the Business Office to deliver the notice, the property owner still has the responsibility for making the payment in a timely manner.  Penalties start to accrue on August 1st, 2013.

Business Office Manager, Marlene Witt, reports that payments have been coming in at a brisk pace, but that so far there have been few delays for those who choose to pay in person.   Her main concern, as always, is that some tax payers may have not received notice.  “The Business Office strives to deliver tax bills in a timely and accurate manner, including re-mailing notices when a change of address is returned to us by the Post Office,” she said.  “However, in some cases delivery may be delayed and penalties may begin to accrue with no notice being delivered.    Unfortunately, Tennessee State Law is very restrictive and there is little that can be done to help someone who did not receive a notice or who received it late.”

This year the City is also accepting credit cards for tax payments.  Credit cards will be accepted at the counter and on the City’s website at www.oakridgetn.gov.  A 3% convenience fee will be assessed to all credit card transactions to offset the cost of the program.

Further information is available through the City’s website, www.oakridgetn.gov.  Citizens can also view and print duplicate bills through the website.  The tax specialist at the City can be reached at (865)425-3404.
