The City of Oak Ridge Administrative Hearing Officer (AHO) conducted first hearing on August 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the City of Oak Ridge Municipal Building Courtroom.  There were six failures to register rental property cases on the docket which was heard by Hugh Ward who was selected as the AHO for the City of Oak Ridge.  He started in May 2014 and has since worked with Code Enforcement to set up the process by which the AHO will operate.  Code enforcement has also modified the enforcement documents and procedures to reflect the use of AHO instead of City Court when appropriate.

The AHO is designed to hear all cases relating to all locally adopted construction and property maintenance codes including Rental Registration.   This allows for greater understanding and responsive action on code violations. AHO serves for a term of 4 years and must be initially trained and required to obtain recertification training annually.

Subsequent hearings have been scheduled the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month also at 10:00am.
