The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard course on March 19, 20, 21, and 22nd from 9:00am to 5:00pm. This course will be taught in a blended learning format, which includes more water sessions. Attendance is required at all classroom and water sessions to successfully pass course.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old and take a prerequisite test in order to register for this course. The prerequisite test will be held on Thursday, March 5th at 5pm at the Civic Center indoor pool. This test consists of a 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl and breaststroke, while using rhythmic breathing. It also includes a timed, 20-yard swim, recovery of a 10-pound weight and treading water for two (2) minutes, using legs only.
The course fee is required once the applicant has passed the prerequisite testing. The complete fee for this course is $170. The applicant will pay a $135 registration fee to the City of Oak Ridge, and an additional $35 paid online directly to the American Red Cross. Enrollment is limited.
