On Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at approximately 6:00 A.M., the Oak Ridge Police Department received an anonymous tip concerning the whereabouts of Desmond Slater, who was wanted by the United States Marshals Service for violation of his federal supervised release. His original charge was felon in possession of a firearm.
The anonymous tipster stated Slater was hiding in a residence at 258 S. Dillard Ave. Several officers went to that location, made contact with a resident who informed them Mr. Slater was inside the residence, and received permission to enter the house to arrest Mr. Slater. Slater was found in a bedroom and upon initial contact with officers, he immediately tried to escape on foot through the living room. As officers tried to subdue him in the confined space, Mr. Slater continued to fight with officers from inside the residence to the front yard, where Slater was taken into custody.
During the fight to subdue Slater outside the residence, one officer was bitten on his leg by a police dog. The officer was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and Slater, who was additionally charged with Evading Arrest and Resisting a Lawful Arrest, was transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton without further incident.
