The City of Oak Ridge is currently accepting applications for Firefighter Trainees and Firefighters. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school or possess their GED certification.

Orientation sessions will be held at Pollard Auditorium, 210 Badger Ave. Oak Ridge, TN 37830 on April 1 and 2 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (2 hours each day). You must be on time and only need to attend one of the orientation sessions.

Orientation sessions for the position and a discussion of testing requirements are mandatory for applicants. You must have an application on file with the Personnel Department before attending orientation or bring your application with you to orientation, along with a government issued photo ID. You must attend one of the orientation sessions to be eligible to take the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) in June. You will have 10 weeks to prepare for the CPAT test and will be given 3 attempts to pass the test.

Candidates who pass the CPAT will be scheduled for a written test at a later date. Other steps in the City’s selection process for Firefighter Trainee include an appearance before an oral interview panel, a psychological evaluation and a hazmat medical examination, including a drug screen.
