Welcome to Main Street: Community Celebrates Beginning of Demolition, Groundbreaking for New Development
July 15, 2016
The City of Oak Ridge invites the community and members of the media to celebrate a new and exciting phase of development for Main Street Oak Ridge.
Following the sale of the 58-acre property to RealtyLink in June, construction crews have been readying the site for demolition so they can begin a multi-million dollar renovation. The building once known as the Oak Ridge Mall will be torn down between anchor stores JCPenney and Belk. The area will then be turned into a 600,000 square foot mixed-use retail project known as “Main Street Oak Ridge.”
Several new businesses have already been confirmed to join Belk, JCPenney and Cinemark’s Tinseltown. They include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Electronic Express, Maurice’s, PetSmart, Rack Room Shoes, Rue 21, T.J. Maxx, and Ulta. Some of those stores are expected to open as soon as spring of 2017.
On July 20th at 2pm, city leaders, planners, local business representatives, and members of the community will gather for a ceremonious kickoff to demolition. This event will also serve as the official groundbreaking for the project.
