UPDATE: Three Charged AFTER SHOOTING, VICTIM IN STABLE CONDITION

November 15, 2016

On November 15th, 2016, at approximately 12:58 p.m., Oak Ridge Police responded to 104 E. Holston Lane, after reports of a shooting were called into the emergency communications center.

Multiple units responded and were on scene immediately, where it was determined a shooting had occurred. A short while later, a sole male victim of the shooting was treated at the Methodist Medical Center Emergency Room for gunshot injuries.

Officers on scene determined the suspect in the shooting fled the residence and may have been in the area. A containment perimeter was established and officers initiated a search on foot.
At approximately 2:09 p.m., two suspects were detained. A third suspect was later identified and transported from the scene to ORPD headquarters.

After questioning, the following individuals were charged with especially aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and conspiracy in connection with the shooting:

  • Nicholas Strickland, 25, of Oak Ridge
  • Matthew A. Mashburn, 27, of Knox County
  • Nicole Brewer, 19, of Oak Ridge

The victim was transferred to UT Medical Center for further treatment of his injuries. He was listed in stable condition at that time. His name has not been released.

During this incident, a level II lockdown of Oak Ridge High School was implemented by Oak Ridge Schools. After both suspects were in custody, this lockdown was lifted; at no time does ORPD believe ORHS students or staff were in any danger.

The investigation is open and ongoing; no further information is available for release at this time.
