checking out materials


What materials are available for check out at the Library?
 
The Library has the following material available for checkout:

  • Books
  • Music
  • Magazines
  • Audiobooks on CD and MP3
  • Seeds (limit of 10 packets a person)
  • DVDs and Blu-Rays (limit of 5 videos/DVDs per card)

We also provide the following materials and services (no card required):

  • Current magazines and newspapers  
  • Photocopy machines (10¢ per page)
  • Microfilm/microfiche readers/printers (10¢ per page for copies)
  • IRS tax forms
  • Oak Ridge Room - local history

How long can materials be checked out?

You can keep most material for 3 weeks and may renew an item two times. Items with reserves may not be renewed. You can check out u
p to 5 DVDs free of charge. There are due by 5:00pm on the seventh day after checkout.

Can Items be renewed?

Except for items on reserve, material may be renewed twice after the original checkout. You can renew materials at the library, by calling the main desk at (865) 435-3457, or renewing items online


Where do I return materials?

All material should be returned to the main desk. For your convenience, you may also return items, except compact discs, to our outside drop box on the Oak Ridge Turnpike side of the building. Launchpads must be returned to the inside book drop at the main desk.
 
How much are overdue fines?

With the exception of DVDs and Blu-Rays, all overdue material is allowed a 2-day grace period and costs 20¢ per day up to a limit of $20 per item. 
DVD and Blu-Ray fines are $2 per day up to a limit of $20 per item. There is no grace period for videos and DVDs.

How do I reserve materials checked out by another patron?

When you want material that is checked out you can place it on reserve. Placing a reserve puts your name on the waiting list for the material. Reserves are filled in the order in which they received.  Ask at the main desk or 
place a reserve online.

How do I get material not held by Oak Ridge Public Library?

If you want an item not found in the library catalog, y
ou can request that material published in the last three years be purchased for the library collection. Older material may be borrowed from another library through interlibrary loan. There is a small fee to cover postage of interlibrary loan items.
