The City does not discriminate because of race, color, gender, religion, age, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status or because of a disability that could interfere with the performance of essential job functions. All applicants will be evaluated against the same qualification requirements.

What Happens to Your Application

Applications are kept on file for two (2) calendar years. You may bring your application up to date at any time by contacting the Personnel Department. You must notify the Personnel Department in the event of name change, address and/or telephone number.

The City advertises in The Oak Ridger, on the City’s Internet Website (www.oakridgetn.gov) and with the Tennessee Career Center. If you have an application on file and wish to be considered for a specific opening, you MUST notify the Personnel Department. Your application will then be placed with the others that have been received and will be reviewed by the appropriate City staff members. Please pay particular attention to the “close date” for any position you are considering as late submissions will not be accepted.

Some individuals are requested to come in for an oral interview and personal references and former employers are contacted. When all data is gathered, the Department Director of the vacant position will recommend the applicant who appears to be best qualified, and an appointment is made by the City Manager. All applicants must be able to pass a complete physical examination and drug/alcohol screening as a condition of employment.
