ANDERSON COUNTY HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION EVENT

Anderson County will hold its household hazardous waste collection event on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Oak Ridge Public Works Building. More information on the event and the items that can and cannot be accepted is listed below.

Household Hazardous Waste is anything generated in the household that has a hazardous property. A material is hazardous if it is flammable, corrosive, toxic, or reactive with heat or contact with metals.


WE WILL ACCEPT:

  • HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS: DRAIN OPENERS, POLISHERS, DISINFECTANTS
  • HOME IMPROVEMENT / MAINTENANCE: ADHESIVES, STRIPPERS, THINNERS, REMOVERS
  • HOME LAWN AND GARDEN: HERBICIDES, PESTICIDES, POISONS, FUNGICIDES, WOOD PRESERVATIVES
  • AUTOMOTIVE FLUIDS: OIL ADDITIVES & FUEL ADDITIVES, STARTER FLUIDS, SOLVENTS, CLEANERS, REFRIGERANTS, ANTIFREEZE*/COOLANTS, FUEL (INCLUDING OLD GASOLINE)
  • MISCELLANEOUS SUPPLIES: RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES*, LITHIUM BATTERIES, BUTTON BATTERIES, POOL CHEMICALS, CHEMICALS FROM CHEMISTRY SETS,  MEDICINES / DRUGS, AEROSOLS / COMPRESSED GAS, PHOTO PROCESSING CHEMICALS, NEEDLES/SHARPS (in containers)

PLEASE DO NOT BRING:

  • PAINT*, ELECTRONICS*, ALKALINE BATTERIES**, ANY EMPTY CONTAINERS, MEDICAL & INFECTIOUS WASTE (except needles and sharps in puncture-proof containers), EXPLOSIVES/AMMUNITION, RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS (including smoke detectors), AUTOMOTIVE OIL*, or LEAD ACID BATTERIES*
  • NO COMMERCIAL*** & AGRI-BUSINESS MATERIALS***

***Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators are eligible to participate by appointment only, and may contact Clean Harbors Environmental Services at 615-643-3170 with a waste inventory to request a price quote and schedule an appointment.

       This State sponsored HHW Event is open to Any Resident of the State of Tennessee Residents of other Counties are Welcome!  

*Batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, and electronics are accepted on a year round basis at Anderson County’s Blockhouse Valley Road facility. Please contact Anderson County Solid Waste for hours of operation.

**Alkaline batteries no longer contain mercury and can be thrown away in the regular garbage.
